Bought a New Vintage Percolator Today

We visited one of our local thrift shops today and we ran into this awesome Vintage percolator, we got it for a Great price!I Love it, its HUGE it fits 30 cups! We plan on using it this Sunday to warm up water for our Pancake Party :)

This brings our collection up to 4 Vintage Percolators! 3 electric and 1 stove top.

DIY Gingerbread Zombie Ornament Tutorial

Hey Everyone! Who's ready to make some handmade funky Christmas ornaments?I had some pieces of cardboard laying around so I put them to good useFor this project you are going to need the following materials:recycled cardboard,scissors,pen, & ornament hooks

Start by Drawing your Ginger bread Men on the cardboard

Next cut it!

Use a small nail or screwdriver to punch a hole on the top, this is where the hook will go in.

Now its time to Decorate them!you can make them into anythingI made Smiling ones, Zombies and Gingerbread Hookers lol

If you make a ton of them you can make a small tree using cardboard circles to display them in :)

Tutorial- Turn an Empty Pretzel container into a Solar Powered Garden Lantern

Hey Everyone,
today I was feeling a bit crafty so I put myself to work and came up with this cool lantern, its perfect to put on your apartment balcony or your porch !

it takes only 6 easy steps and a few items than can easily be found around the house.

Materials:
empty plastic container
old solar powered garden light
acrylic paint
a tea light
scissors
rocks

Step 1
Get a hold of a big clear plastic container with a lid. I had this pretzel jar handy.

Take out all the pretzels and carefully remove the label using a small blade or razor.
wash off any glue residue using soap and water.

Step 2
Dry the container using paper towels and give it a few coats of acrylic paint, i used a nice shade of turquoise, but also a ligth baby blue or yellow would look awesome.

Step 3
Allow the background color to dry then add on a simple design using a darker color. I used dark brown and added some naked branches using a small brush.

Step 4
Grab the scissors and light the tea light. Use the tea light to heat up the tip of the scissors and puncture a small hole on the lid of the container, make sure the hole is big enough to fit the LED.

Step 5
Put some rocks or sand in the bottom of the jar, this will help it stay sturdy on windy days.
place the solar powered light on top of the lid and place your lantern in a nice sunny spot during the day so that the battery can charge

Step 6
Wait for the night to arrive and enjoy your lantern !

A Day in Chicago ChinaTown- Ups I forgot it was Lent

Today I spent an awesome day in Chinatown.
I had never had a chance to explore it like I did today
it all started with taking the Metra down to Union Station,

Off we headed to Chinatown!
Once there we were hungry so we headed to Joy Yee's noodle were i got the the lemongrass pork chops w a glass of warm fruit tea mmmmm Delicious! but I completely forgot that it was lent!... no wonder the lady besides me was giving me awkward looks like I killed her cat!

anyways afterwards we wandered around to some of the shops, I bought a small lucky bamboo, a tea diffuser pot, some "Mango Tea"(it tastes nothing like mango lol) and a cool kimono style shirt that was on sale :)

Afterward the fruit tea started to make effect... i forgot tea is a diuretic so we got the task of finding a bathroom, we couldnt find one anywere! we ended up in Saint's Alp teahouse, and since we were there we decided to have some tea. I got the peach tea and it was AMAZING!

The place was very colorful!

I got a cappuccino too!

afterward we wandered of into some more stores like the Pacific Furniture Inc! full of So many cool things! at Great prices!

And the HoyPoloi Art Gallery!

we also wandered into a grocery store that had fish tanks with LIVE Fish, lobsters and dungenes crabs! yes! cant get more fresh than that.... talk about the smell, needless to say we didn't spend much time in there :)

afterward it was starting to get hungry and it was getting dark and cold out so we searched for a dinner spot, so many choices! we ended up going back to the tea House and there we had some more peach tea sweet n sour soup and some Taiwanese h'orderves, that included shrimp balls, chicken wings and tea eggs :) check out more of there menu

After that it was time to head back to Union Station to catch the 8:30 train back home. I made it on time with plenty of time to spare.
I had a great day, I cant wait till the weather gets nicer here in the Chi so that i can go back and explore more of the cool restaurants and shops Chinatown has!

Back to Basics

I know I have said this before but once again I'm gonna go back to what got me started into Art in the first place ACEO collectible Art cards! I have been neglecting them lately and its time to give them back the respect they deserve, so you will be seeing a lot more new pieces from me soon.

on another note, I was in the etsy chat the other night and my friend "vintagehillbillies" gave me instructions on how to make a treasury. I have always wanted to make one so i'll definitely give it a shot. Any suggestions for it?

Winter Days

This month has a been a busy one, one of my postcards from my Etsy shop was featured on the regretsy advent calendar and resulted in a bunch of sales and tons of views :D
so i have been busy busy wrapping and shipping. I still to buy and wrap all my presents yesterday, there are now resting under the tree :)

On another note. The New Year is very close too! wow 2011... that's going to take me a while to get used to.

Has everyone though about their goals for next year?

Warmth for Fuzies

Who's ready for Thanksgiving? Not Me!

Seriously! Im lost! its the middle of November already!
Thanksgiving is in less 2 weeks away and I haven't bough or planned anything, the one thing i do know is that were cooking a turkey for the first time...
There's so much to do!

Unless I find a fresh turkey I'm gonna have to get a frozen one and that has to defrost for like 12 hours and then its got to get rubbed and marinate for a while, then it has to get stuffed, then bake for 6 or so hours and in the process i have to baste it to keep it moist... maybe ill cheat and just buy one that's already cooked hehehe :P

Either way I hope it comes out alright, and if it doesn't I can always do a secondary dish like ham or something, I cant wait to pig out w the family!

The other night I was laying in bed trying to sleep, and a song that I haven't heard in a long long time popped into my head. I grabbed my droid and looked up the few lyrics i could remember and to my surprise I Found it!
The song is named "never" by Tina Arena. Apparently this song was HUGE on 2003 and 2004 so it has literally been years since I heard it,Omg I was 16 back Then! Oh the beach memories :D

Farewell Summer

is it just me or does any one else get the feeling that this year is going by extra fast, its already September!

This summer has treated me very well and to celebrate a couple of friends and I decided to trow a "Goodbye Summer/ Fuck Fall BBQ" lol it turned out Great!
There was a lot to get done for the party and we managed to pull it all together in one weekend. The invites were done through Facebook, I invited about 50 people at the end 25 were able to make it in such short notice.

Everyone had a great time! To drink we had home made Sangria and Mojitos and lots of other goodies that our guests brought like sake, beer, and handles of liquor :)
To eat we had hot dogs, grilled chicken and grilled salmon mmmmm.

Unfortunately the party was cut short because the police showed up lol, apparently we had our music too loud and it was a Monday night. I learned my lesson and next time ill trow the party on a weekend and ill start it earlier

Anyway I want to thank all the people that showed up! See you again next year!

How to make a Kitty ACEO -Tutorial !

Hi there! its Monday again and its time to forget about all the troubles and terrible things going on in the world with this fun little tutorial.
Are you ready???

Today where gonna make this cool Kitty ACEO collectible art card in 7 easy steps.

Step 1
Where gonna start by cutting out a piece of paper thats specialized for acrylics or a piece of card stock into 2.5 x 3.5 inches (ACEO standard) and sketching out our design in pencil

Step 2
paint all the big "background" areas like the sky so that they dry and can be detailed later.

Step 3
Paint the yellow pedestrian and paint the red curtains!

Step 4
color Kitty's cushion choose a color that contrasts the color of your curtains and fill in Kitty w a light gray

Step 5
With a thick round brush dilute some black and give Kitty some dark "patches" to add texture, also give Kitty a nice collar :)

Step 6
With a fine tip brush grab some more black and add quick thin brush strokes all over Kitty to simulate "fur"

Step 7
finish of the details like the umbrella tip and the curtains with a fine point sharpie and.... UR DONE!

Last thursday i sat down and started this painting. Im trying to venture more into the abstract field, it seems to be on the rise :)so far this painting reminds me of "sherbert ice cream" lol I shall keep u updated to see in which shop it ends.

Wok Time!

Last week I hit IKEA! I love going to the Swedish home store Mecha hehehe!
Every time I go I usually spend Hours in there but this last visit was pretty speedy, I was on a mission to get some plants to my always expanding garden.
I ended up getting 6 little palm trees for a 1.50 each, i also got 2 really neat " lucky bean trees" I will be posting up picks soon.

The thing that made my day was running into the kitchen section and finding a "Wok Cookbook" on sale! I had been eying is for some! So on my free time i have been reading it, there are So Many possibilities! frying, stir frying, steaming braising! its insane! the whole philosophy behind it is to make fast simple and nutritious meals, the cooking times are kept short so that the ingredients maintain their nutrients. Im not much of a cook, but I am really looking forward to try out some of the recipes!

I have hit all kinds of stores and I have gotten plowers, soil,mulch, shade trees, shade bushes, seeds,fertilizer,pots and I have some cactus and poppy seeds that I bough online on the way too haha!

Weekend Recap

Its Monday Again! after a semi busy weekend at work its finally my day off.
I have big plans for today. Ill go get some steak! mmm steak! I also plan on going thrifting, maybe a new Vintage Shop will to be born from the treasures I find, any suggestions for the name? ill be sure to bring cash along because some of these places don't take credit cards.

I did some painting over the weekend and It resulted in the following pieces:

This Macabre Easter Inspired Skeleton ACEO that turned out Great that is now for sale at my Etsy Shop The backwash is made in watercolors and the rest is finished in acrylics. It looks so much better and brighter in person :)

I also finished another cool Skeleton "Zorro" inspired ACEO that I started a long time ago but had been procrastinating to finish.

I also finished a little surprise that I cooked up for my friend Bruce but I wont spoil it :) ill blog it next time

What else did I do this weekend? well yesterday we went out to breakfast with my family.

Lets Watch -GIA- The Movie

I cant sleep so I decided to look up old movies.
I found one that I haven't watched in a long time "GIA" a beautiful movie based on the complicated life of Gia Carangi, The first American Super Model.
If you don't want me to spoil the movie for you then stop reading here.

Long story Short, at the peak of her modeling career Gia
(portrayed by Angelina Jolie) ended up addicted to heroin and died of AIDS at the age of 26.
Its a very sad story. One of my personal favorite movies. If you haven't watched it yet I highly recommend you do. LINK

The weekend is over ! in my case its good because I work it, and today is my day off :) so far I have been in my pajamas all day and I might just stay that way.
Maybe ill go out for some sushi later mmmm I have been craving it or maybe some Chinese food? theres a great little spot right down the street, they only do carry out but the food is always amazing I usually get the "General Tso Chicken" hehe.

Creating my new Java Site

This past birthday was a great one! I got lots of great gifts like a beautiful new multifuntional and my very own domain name, which gave me the idea to create this new "flash site" Originally the plan was to create a new centralized website in which I could redirect all my shops and galleries to, but after many hours of domain/ip technical difficulties I managed to have my domain name redirected to my blog and TADAAA! HERE it is! back to where it all started my blog!
I have already spent a lot of time editing my blog so I migth as well take advantage of the free hosting it offers :D Thank You Blogger!

Feeding my Fish !

I just fed the the fish in my 30 gallon tank! man do they eat! I have had this tank for almost 4 years now, its a fresh water tropical community tank :) all the fish get along very well... well most of the time :).
The big pink one is "Pinky" he/she is a Pink Kissing Gouramis The sharks are fresh water Bala Sharks and in the back some Rasbora swim peacefully in a group of 5 :)
All the plants are natural too!

Today I had the nite of from work and decided to advance a little on my painting, I was able to complete 2 new bookmarks and 2 new pieces of "octopus nursery scenes" iI cant wait to list them in my Etsy shop

I was bored at work and a hada few pieces of cardstocck so I decided to let my imagination run free! i was watching a documentary on octopus last nite before bed and I think it subliminally inspired me to draw them :) They are such misterious interesting creatures.

its monday nite, im chilling at home listening to some good music and letting my imagination go free with watercolors. I rarely use them but I love the look of the layers in between the washes.

So I got home after work the other night and this bad boy was waiting for me :) It was HUGE! notice how the pizza takes up all 4 burners of an average size stove hehehe

Land of the Giant Icicles!

The winter has left its Mark on the back of my house, Giant icicles have formed there HUGE! a couple of them have even touched the ground! I Know your thinking... those look dangerous... but the truth is no one ever goes back there so theres no hazard :) and its nice to just look out the window and stare at them, it makes me feel like i'm in an igloo.
